Made to traditional craftsmanship, this mortar & pestle can be used to grind seeds, nuts and spices.  The hand made surubachi (mortar) is constructed of hardened clay to aid the grinding. The surikogi (pestle) is made from sustainably harvested wood. The wood is harvested from the Japanese pepper tree as it is hard and resistant to wear.

 


The Mie prefecture in Japan is renowned for its ceramics manufacture and industry. Local Bankoyaki artisans produce handmade pottery that is both beautiful and practical for everyday use honouring processes and techniques that date back to the 18th century Edo period.
